Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Pocketry and this website do with your information. Pocketry is published by Jonathan Lazoff (“we”, “us”), who is responsible for the personal data described here. Contact: support@pocketry.app.
The short version
- The App keeps what you copy on your Mac and nowhere else. We never receive your clipboard, snippets, images or AI inputs.
- The App has no analytics, tracking or advertising, and works without an internet connection.
- If you choose “Report a problem” in Settings, the App opens an email draft in your own mail app with technical details (app and macOS versions, chip type, permission and health-check status, and whether you are on a trial). It never includes your clipboard contents or your license email, and nothing is sent unless you press Send.
- The only personal data we hold is what we need to sell you a license and support you: mainly your email address.
1. In the App
What the App stores on your Mac
- Your clipboard history (text, images and file references), snippets and settings, in
~/Library/Application Support/Pocketry. - History, snippets and saved images are encrypted on disk with AES-256. The key is stored in your Mac’s Keychain, stays on that Mac, and is not sent to us.
- Your license key and the date your trial started are kept in the same folder and in the App’s preferences.
- Text that looks like an API key, token, password or card number is hidden and deleted after two minutes by default, and cleared from your clipboard after you paste it. Copies from password managers, and from apps you choose to ignore, are not recorded. You can pause recording from the menu bar icon.
- You can export, clear or delete everything at any time from Settings, or by deleting that folder.
AI and text recognition
Summarize, clean up, translate and your own actions run on Apple’s on-device language model. Text recognition in images and screenshots uses Apple’s on-device Vision framework. Your content is not sent to us or to any third party by the App.
Screenshot to text
When you use the screenshot shortcut, the App uses the macOS screenshot tool to capture the area you select, reads its text on your Mac, and deletes the image straight away. Only the recognised text is kept, in your history. macOS may ask you to allow Screen Recording.
Permissions
The App can ask for Accessibility access so it can paste into other apps and expand snippets while you type. It uses this only for those purposes. It looks at keystrokes only to match snippet keywords, and does not save or send them. Both permissions are optional and you can withdraw them in System Settings at any time.
Licenses and updates
Your license key is checked on your Mac and does not contact us. Signed releases of the App can check for updates, and you can turn this off in Settings. A check downloads a small file (the update feed) from pocketry.app. The App sends only its version number, no personal data or clipboard content. Our hosting provider sees the request like any other web visit.
2. When you buy
Orders are sold by Paddle.com Market Limited (“Paddle”), our Merchant of Record. Paddle collects your name, email, country, postcode and payment details to take payment, calculate tax and prevent fraud. Paddle is an independent controller of that data and handles it under its own privacy notice. We never see your card or bank details.
Paddle gives us your email address, name, country, and order details (order number, amount and date). We use them to:
- create and email your license key;
- answer support requests and process refunds;
- keep records we are required to keep.
We do not sell your data, rent it, or use it for advertising. We email you only about your purchase and support, not marketing, unless you ask for it.
3. Who else handles data for us
- Paddle: payments and tax, as above.
- Cloudflare: hosts this website, runs the small service that issues license keys (it keeps your email address and the order number so a key is never sent twice), and forwards support email.
- Resend: sends the license-key email to you.
- Our email provider, for the support mailbox.
These providers process data only to provide their services to us. They may be located in the United States, the United Kingdom or the European Union. Where data leaves your country, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
4. This website
We do not use advertising trackers or analytics on this website, and we do not set cookies ourselves. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and reliability. The checkout page loads a script from Paddle so you can pay securely; Paddle may use cookies or similar storage for checkout, security and fraud prevention, as described in its privacy notice.
5. Why we use your data, and for how long
| Purpose | Basis (GDPR / UK GDPR) | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| Create and deliver your license | Performing our contract with you | While your license is valid |
| Support and refunds | Contract, and our legitimate interest in helping customers | Up to 3 years after your last contact |
| Tax, accounting and fraud records | Legal obligation, and legitimate interest | As long as the law requires (Paddle keeps its own records) |
| Website security logs | Legitimate interest | A short period set by our hosting provider |
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to complain to your local data protection authority. California residents have similar rights under the CCPA; we do not sell or share personal information. To use any of these rights, email support@pocketry.app. We will answer within 30 days. For data held by Paddle, you can also contact Paddle directly. Your clipboard data is only on your Mac, so you can export or delete it yourself in the App.
7. Children
Pocketry is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
8. Security
We protect the data we hold with access controls and encrypted connections, and the App encrypts its stored history on your Mac. No system is perfectly secure, so please also keep your Mac protected with a strong login password and disk encryption.
9. Changes
If we change this policy in a material way, we will update the date above and, where it matters, tell you by email or in the App.
